Thank you so much to Small Talk Blog for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! The award is designed to connect bloggers and spread positivity within our community. It gives us and our readers the chance to get to all know each other a little better, whilst hopefully also being inspirational in one way or another. Having only launched Jet Set with Jas at the end of September last year, I was super excited to be nominated for this award by a fellow blogger 🙂

Here are the questions Jazz set:
What inspired you to start your blog?
I have always enjoyed creative writing and have been a natural storyteller. However, after completing my BA (Hons) English Language and Literature, I found I had lost my passion for writing and became very disheartened. Writing for me is very organic, and as I discovered it is possible to be too critical of your own work. Luckily this was temporary, and at the end of last year I reignited my passion and now enjoy combining it with my love for travelling the world, exploring and appreciating other cultures.
In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?
I hope that my writing will accompany me on my travels and that I will always have the opportunity to share my tales with others, giving them helpful tips and travel inspiration along my way.
If you were to pick one sense which would it be – sight/smell/touch/hearing/taste?
If I could only have one of these senses then I guess I would choose sight. The world is such a beautiful place and I hope to see every part of it that I can.
Do you prefer coffee or tea?
I like “builder’s tea”, or so I am told. We don’t have this expression in Australia and it was only something I learnt recently. Tea is my go to, but coffee also has a very special time and place. I’m very fussy with my coffee. I think the Italian’s make the best, and I only drink Espressos.
Who takes your images for your blog posts?
Generally speaking I do, but from time to time I will use images taken by friends travelling with us or use stock images that best illustrate what I am writing about (always crediting them of course).
For my social media accounts I didn’t want to create another feed all about a girl in exotic locations. I wanted to let the beauty of the places I was visiting do the talking. That’s why you will find more images of landscapes and details of the locations I am exploring, rather than lots of selfies of yours truly.
How much time do you spend blogging?
The short answer is a lot! Not only is it a passion, but it is also a business. I have weekly deadlines to meet in order to post content on my blog, in addition to creating daily content for my social media channels. On top of that I need to promote and market my brand. I also attended networking events and tradeshows and work on content to be published through professional travel publications. Blogging is a full-time job in itself that I currently juggle alongside of my existing full-time job, but I really enjoy it and find it really rewarding.
What would you advise anyone who is starting out blogging?
I think it is important to have a niche USP. Even I still discovering what mine is, however once you have one that will make you stand out from everyone else. And in the hugely competitive world of blogging, you want to stand out!
Also, be professional and put your best foot forward all of the time. That means creating good content (don’t publish crap for the sake of it), edit your work and pitches, take engaging images, have a slick website, sell yourself and be memorable.
What do you think of sponsored posts?
Personally I don’t see a problem with it provided any brands you are endorsing are of interest to you and your readers/ followers. I make the promise to mine that you won’t find me endorsing any products, restaurants, services or resorts that I don’t or wouldn’t use myself, or think would be of benefit to my readers. Equally, I always reserve the right to post honest reviews.
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury all the way. Salt is my Achilles’ heel.
How do you increase your blog traffic?
To be honest this is something I am trying to figure out as a new blogger. I promote my posts weekly via my social media channels and have recently added a pop-up newsletter subscription option to my website. I am increasingly submitting guest posts on other bloggers websites too.
What would be your favourite destination to visit and why?
I’m a little torn with this one. Being a patriotic Aussie, I always love the opportunity to endorse my beautiful country which honestly is one of the most spectacular places I’ve been to and really do feel that there is something there to put a smile on everyone’s face. From the lush tropical rainforest, to the vibrant red soiled plains, to the golden sands of the turquoise coastline; “you’ll never, never know, if you never, never go”!
But I also adore Italy. Si and I return year after year, and always have the most incredible time. It is absolutely gorgeous – inland you have the Tuscan vineyards, and there are the emerald lakes and the chic coastal towns. The food and wine are out of this world, and the people are always friendly. I particularly like Tuscany: Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Montefollonico. Rome is amazing too.
