Too often in life we over complicate things creating stress and unnecessary angst. What if there was a unique travel concept that stripped away what you didn’t need, to enhance what you did need, creating a simplified comfortable and memorable stay – or even a “naked” stay as LUMA Concept Hotel London likes to call it!
Built in a former Victorian lightbulb factory, the hotel is located in the trendy West London suburb of Hammersmith, home to some of London’s elite including Bill Bailey, Lord Sebastian Coe, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Si and I arrived on a Friday evening to check in. As we stepped inside to the open plan reception/ chill out area, exposed brick walls, and oversized Osram lightbulbs paid homage to the historical foundations of the grand factory that once stood before it. We were suitably impressed by the interior design that warmly embraces the origins of the building and the simplistic ethos of the brand. The staff were friendly, and the check-in process was a breeze.
Our Quad room efficiently made use of every ounce of space available. As we entered the room we walked via our bathroom vanity that overlooked the bedroom with the mirror acting as a divider of sorts. Cleverly the loo and the shower were tucked away on either side of the concealed open planned bathroom. This gets bonus points from me – I think there is nothing worse than an open plan bathroom where everything is on display. As a couple, I don’t need to see my significant other doing their business, and as a solo/ business traveller I don’t need anything wafting into my sacred sleeping space (not implying that there would be anything that would waft of course!).
The bedroom was spacious with a small annexe window looking out on to the suburban street below, letting lots of natural light in. The set up was simple and basic, yet all we needed. Each room comes with a television, a Nespresso and tea/ coffee making facilities and an in-room information device (think iPad with information on the local area). We set our stuff down and were on our way.
LUMA Concept Hotel London does not have a restaurant of its own. Instead, you are encouraged to get out and experience the neighbourhood like a local. We nipped over to The Dartmouth Castle for a pre-dinner bevvie, and then made our way to a local Spanish tapas restaurant at the recommendation of LUMA. I really enjoyed experiencing the local neighbourhood – you are spoilt for choice. Choose from an abundance of independent restaurants and coffee shops, cosy gastropubs or even local farmer’s markets. I love that LUMA Concept Hotel London works with local businesses to offer guests discounts to the many restaurants surrounding it, supporting their local community.
The next day we headed downstairs to check out and take advantage of the complimentary Grab and Go breakfast on offer. A large communal table was set up with brown paper bags, each containing a pastry, bottle of juice and a slice of fresh fruit. We then helped ourselves to complimentary tea and coffee and were ready to start our busy London day.
The local area has so much going on – we had so many options available of fun and different things to do. On our doorstep, we found Santander Cycles, perfect for jumping on and going for a ride around the neighbourhood and exploring the local parks nearby, like Chiswick. We were a stone’s throw away from London’s upmarket shopping mall, Westfield. We were also right by Soho House’s newest opening White City House, the super cool summer pop-up Pergola on the Roof, and the legendary Riverside Café – a must for all-day dining with a glass of rosé and spectacular views overlooking the River Thames.
We enjoyed LUMA Concept Hotel London’s considered approach to enhancing our stay and experiencing the local neighbourhood. It’s central London location makes it the perfect hotel for business and leisure travellers alike. It is 5 minutes from the Underground, 10 minutes from London’s major attractions, and only 30 minutes from London Heathrow. For a unique experience when next travelling to London, I would recommend checking the LUMA Concept Hotel London out, rooms from only £149 per room/ night including a complimentary Grab and Go breakfast.
