For a romantic day out, head to Sirmione, one of the postcard-perfect towns dotted along the shore. With an abundance of architectural treasures including many beautiful churches, a castle and a Roman house built between the end of the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD, Sirmione is nothing short of impressive.
Be sure to visit Spa Termale Aquaria and enjoy the thermal springs too.
Or, for the ultimate proposal, head to Verona, the scene of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet; only 20 minutes away on the train.

Autumn – Lisbon
Lisbon is quite the geological phenomenon. Bowl like in shape, it collects light refracted by the Tagus River and the surrounding hills. A city bathed in glowing light, in a valley of seven hills, Lisbon really is a magical place.
Being one of Europe’s oldest cities, you will find an abundance of history and culture, in addition to incredible weather, beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine, friendly locals and chic hotels.
Woo your love and jump on a vintage funicular. Wind through the narrow cobblestoned backstreets, as the tram screeches and rattles along, taking in the breathtaking views of the river and city below as you climb to dizzying heights. Head for Alfama, the oldest district in the city. Sandwiched between Sao Jorge Castle and the Tagus River, it is hopelessly romantic. You will find the streets lined with traditional Portuguese fado bars, playing lively music. They serve the most delicious cuisine for you to feast on. What could be dreamier?
